Sugar's Ribs

Old-style smoked spareribs with a view off the ridge, in what used to be the Pancake Man.

Why Sugar's Ribs is No. 11

Sugar's Ribs sits on the side of Missionary Ridge, looking out over downtown and the mountains. Lawton and Karen Haygood opened it in 2007 in what had been the Pancake Man, once part of the Kings Lodge Motel.

It is old-fashioned roadside barbecue: spareribs smoked the Southern way, not boiled and sauced, plus pork butt, chopped brisket, house-made sausage and half chickens, with Texas pintos, spicy vinegar slaw and banana pudding.

Lunch and dinner seven days a week, with a heated deck and a vintage jukebox.
