Chattanooga Climbing Gyms

Where to climb indoors in Chattanooga.

They are not interchangeable. One has the ropes, one has the bouldering and the boards, and one is a training room you book.

Updated

Chattanooga is a climbing town with world-class sandstone half an hour away, which is exactly why the indoor question matters - it is what you do in January, on a wet Tuesday, and when you are trying to get strong enough for the good stuff.

Quick answers

Where can you climb on a rope indoors in Chattanooga?

High Point, and only High Point. The downtown gym on Broad Street has 45-foot rope walls, auto belays and the city's only indoor lead wall; its Riverside gym has ropes too. Synergy is bouldering only.

Which Chattanooga gym has a MoonBoard, Kilter or Tension Board?

Synergy has all three in one training room, with a campus board and fingerboards. Crux Conditioning on McCallie Avenue has a mirrored 12x12 Tension Board 2, a spray wall and a campus board, by reservation. High Point publishes adjustable boards at its Cleveland gym, half an hour away, but not at either Chattanooga location.

Where can you train on a board in Chattanooga without a membership?

Crux Conditioning sells a $20 drop-in and five climbing sessions for $85, which is the cheapest way onto a board here - but it is by reservation, not drop-in-whenever, and they recommend you are climbing V3 or harder. Synergy's day pass is $23 and gets you the boards and ten thousand square feet of bouldering with no booking.

What does it cost to climb indoors in Chattanooga?

A day pass is $23 at Synergy and $24 at High Point, or $28 and $31 respectively once you add gear or the ninja course. Monthly membership is $78.50 at Synergy and $84 at High Point, with student, senior and military rates at both.

Which gym is better for children?

Both run camps, classes and teams. Synergy's Ninja Zone - warped walls, balance beams, an obstacle course - is the one that wins over children who are not yet sure they like climbing. High Point has a Kid Zone and ropes, which suits a child who already is.

Is a new climbing gym opening in Chattanooga?

Challenger Board Authority, a board gym, is coming to downtown Chattanooga. It has not opened and publishes nothing yet, so there is no street address, date or price to give. It is on the list as a wildcard and will be ranked once it opens.

What is a board gym?

A gym built around adjustable training boards - a MoonBoard, Kilter or Tension board - rather than set routes on a wall. The angle and the problems change on an app, the holds are the same everywhere in the world, and the point is getting strong rather than a day out. Synergy has a room of them; Challenger Board Authority is being built around the idea.

Is High Point a local business?

It started in Chattanooga and still calls itself established here, but it now runs eight gyms across Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. Synergy is a single independent gym with no other locations.
