Chattanooga Parks No. 10 of 10
Chester Frost Park
The county's camping park on Chickamauga Lake - over two hundred sites, a sand beach, and a paddle park for dogs.
Why Chester Frost Park is No. 10
On a Chickamauga Lake peninsula north of the city, and the answer to the one thing the rest of this list cannot do: sleep outside for several nights. The county describes a campground with over two hundred campsites available for recreational camping year-round, and publishes no nightly rate - booking goes through their reservation system.
It is a lake park first. There is a sand beach, beach volleyball, boat docks, a boat ramp, fishing and fishing piers, and the calendar is thick with bass tournaments - three in the fortnight around this writing, including a district championship.
The best thing here is the Dog Paddle Park, which is what it sounds like: a fenced area with lake access, so the dog swims rather than circling a patch of dirt. Enterprise South has the splash pad; this has the actual lake.
Dallas Island, out at the end, has a disc golf course and two event stages. Back on the mainland: four picnic shelters plus the Smokemont Shelter and a pavilion, a playground, a tennis court, grills, restrooms and internet. The county lists it ADA accessible.
Two addresses are published and both are right - the park is at 2277 Gold Point Circle N, and 7872 Causeway Road is the ranger station, where camping registration happens. Gates are open 6am to 10pm every day, the ranger station 10 to 5.
