Chattanooga Parks No. 4 of 10
Enterprise South Nature Park
Two thousand eight hundred acres on a former munitions plant, with sixteen named trails and a splash pad for dogs.
Why Enterprise South Nature Park is No. 4
Two thousand eight hundred wooded acres that used to be the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant, and the county has done the rare thing of publishing every trail with its mileage rather than a vague total.
On foot: Hawks Ridge at 3.1 miles, Boulder Point 1.5, Dogwood Ridge 1.3, Poe Run Path 1.0, Hidden Lake 0.7, Deer Hollow 0.6 with a boardwalk over marsh. On a bike: Magnolia Loop 6.6 miles and Atlas 5.5, both advanced, TNT 4.4 intermediate, Black Forest 3.6 for beginners. On a horse: Summit Knobs, ten miles, with its own entrance on Ferdinand Piech Way.
The park's history is still standing in it - concrete magazines that stored explosives when TNT was made here, with three bunkers kept as historical displays, and a 5.9-mile scenic drive if walking is not the plan.
The dog park is 1.2 acres with a splash pad and a dog wash, and access is free. There is a visitor centre with maps, a library and a fireplace, a playground, a wildlife viewing platform, five first-come picnic areas and eleven car parks.
It publishes real accessibility detail: ADA restrooms at the visitor centre, Connector 3 and lot 3, accessible picnic area 4, paved walking paths shared with bikes, and Still Hollow Loop circles the whole park so you can see it without leaving the car.
One closure to know about: Poe Run Trail through Bunker 2 is shut for Halloween Trail Fest.
